This time during the lockdown has forced us all to stay inside our homes to help control the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus. This means we are consuming more amounts of electricity. So, while people were expecting a rise in their electricity bills, they weren’t ready for such a steep rise! And while common people are voicing their disappointment online, celebrities also joined in.
Actress Taapsee Pannu took to her Twitter to complain about the exorbitant bill she received for the month of June. She shared pictures of her bills and questioned the power suppliers for clarification. From bill amounts ranging from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000, her bill had jumped to a whopping Rs. 36,000, and she said she has not bought any extra electrical appliance for her bill to shoot up like this.
Have a look at her tweets:
3 months of lockdown and I wonder what appliance(s) I have newly used or bought in the apartment only last month to have such an insane rise in my electricity bill. @Adani_Elec_Mum what kind of POWER r u charging us for? pic.twitter.com/jZMMoxDMgj

Actor and comedian, Vir Das tweeted asking, “Anyone else in Mumbai get an electricity bill that is triple what they usually pay?”. He got immediate responses from many like Dino Morea, Amyra Dastur, Neha Dhupia and Kaneez Surka who agreed with him! Amyra even said that she wasn’t living in her flat, but was being charged double the amount anyway.
Here are their tweets:
Omg yes! And I freaking shifted to my mom and dads house in April! They’ve been charging MY flat which I haven’t lived in for 3 months, double of what I would pay actually living there! Mine is BEST. Do you know how to stop this nonsense?

I was just going to tweet about it. Literally got a shock, pun intended. There was no surge in electricity, just the bill @Adani_Elec_Mum https://t.co/zaJfQzFXla

Us too … @thevirdas @Imangadbedi https://t.co/HPcVY6LnCD

It is always nice to know we are not alone when it comes to such issues and we hope the electricity board solves this super soon.
