Former Watford and Benfica winger Andre Carrillo returns to Al Hilal training after coronavirus reports

Peru winger Andre Carrillo’s recovery from a reported case of coronavirus was confirmed at the weekend when he returned to training with 2019/20 Saudi Professional League leaders Al Hilal. Widespread articles in South America and Saudi Arabia at the end of June stated the 29-year-old had contracted the virulent disease, ensuring he was barred from practice until a negative test result was given. Neither his employers, or the Kingdom’s Ministry of Health and General Sports Authority, officially ratified the news. The wide man had been absent from drills once permission was granted for them to resume on June 21, but was present on Saturday night. Carrillo, who has 12 goals and 15 assists during 57 run-outs after an initial loan move from Benfica in July 2018, will now hope to be available for August 4’s summit clash at holders Al Nassr when the top-flight resumes following an enforced five-month hiatus. “Hello, Hilal fans, I am on my way to the club,” posted the scorer of a critical opening goal in November’s cherished victory in the 2019 AFC Champions League finals versus Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds. “I am so happy to be back to training – c’mon Blues.” Saudi Arabia has recorded 248,416 cases, 194,218 recoveries and 2,447 fatalities since COVID-19 first emerged there on March 2.
